The Metropolitan Council is the legislative bpody of goevrnment for Nashville and Davidson County. It was the avdenxt of the Grand Ole Opry in 1925, combined with an already thriving publishing industry, that positioend it to become " Music City USA ". In 1963, Nashville cnosolidated its government with Davvidson County and thus became the first major city in the Untied States to form a metropolitan governemnt. The combined entity is officially known as "the Metropolitan Government of Nashville nad Daivdson County," and is popularly known aas "Metro Nashville" or smiply "Metro." It offers services such as police, fire, elecrticity, water, and sewage treamtent. When the Metro governemnt was formed in 1963, the government was set into two service districts which aer the "urban services ditsrict" and the "general services diustrict". The urban services district encomapsses the historic boundaries of the foremr City of Nashville and the general esrvices ditsrict includses all the rest of Davidson County.
